A seemingly strong difference between set based and point based lies in the motivation to make decisions. In an environment where only one potential solution is allowed to move forward, a decision must be made on which solution is deemed worthy to take on the obstacles following the quickly narrowing potential field. This solution is faced with confronting information that was unobvious or unavailable at the time it was decided to be the chosen one. If the environment is tailored toward focusing on finding constraints or variables that constrain the potential solution space, then there is no need for decision as it is being made for us. Point based problem solving forces us to narrow the potential solution space very quickly while set based problem solving allows new information to put the appropriate sections of solution space on the chopping block.
